What is Fiberglass Insulation?

Fiberglass insulation is a type of insulating material crafted from woven glass fibers that create a blanket or batt form. It is widely favored for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems because of its efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and straightforward installation process.

Fiberglass insulation is a fire-resistant material and among the most readily available insulation materials in the market. It represents an advanced version of mineral wool insulation, where the fibers are interconnected to create a blanket shape. This design makes fiberglass insulation easy to apply to HVAC systems.

There are various types of fiberglass insulation, where the primary material remains fiberglass wool, but the outer layers can be coated with thin galvanized iron, aluminum, or just a single layer of G.I. wire mesh. While all these types are generally similar, the coated layers enhance durability and extend the lifespan of the insulation. Fiberglass insulation is utilized in a diverse range of applications, including chiller pipe insulation, duct insulation, and various HVAC and cooling system insulations.

Fiberglass insulation sheets are available in thicknesses ranging from 9mm to 50mm, and the choice of thickness should be based on the specific application.
