What is an Air Release Valve in HVAC?
Air vent valves, also referred to as automatic air vents, auto vents, or air release valves (often mistakenly called air relief valves), are essential components in pressurized systems. They are used to expel trapped air that accumulates, particularly after the hydro-pneumatic or chiller pump has been inactive.
These valves play a crucial role in removing air from heating or cooling systems. Trapped air can lead to issues such as decreased radiator efficiency, pump cavitation, and inadequate cooling or overheating. In closed heating systems, air can hinder the proper circulation of hot or chilled water, ultimately diminishing the system's overall heating or cooling capacity.
Air vent valves automatically open to release trapped air, facilitating smooth and continuous water flow. They are commonly found in heating and cooling systems, hydronic systems, and water distribution networks to prevent air locks and ensure optimal performance.
There is little need for extensive discussion, as these components are straightforward in design and easy to install, enhancing the overall water flow activity within HVAC systems.
