What is a Butterfly Valve in HVAC?
In HVAC systems, a butterfly valve serves as a flow control device that utilizes a rotating disc (the "butterfly") to manage or isolate fluid flow, providing rapid shut-off and effective flow regulation.
Butterfly valves are mainly employed to manage or isolate the flow of fluids such as water or refrigerant within HVAC systems. They function with a quarter-turn rotation of the disc, enabling quick and effortless flow control. These valves are ideal for both on/off applications and for modulating (or throttling) the flow.
Butterfly Disc Position: When the disc is aligned parallel to the flow, the valve remains open, allowing fluid to pass through. Conversely, when the disc is positioned perpendicular to the flow, the valve closes, obstructing the flow.
