AIR PRESSURE SWITCH

What is an Air Pressure Switch?

An air pressure switch in a compressor is a mechanical device that tracks the air pressure inside the compressor tank. It automatically turns the compressor on or off based on predetermined pressure levels, effectively managing the compressor’s function by activating it when the pressure falls below a specific threshold and shutting it down when the pressure hits the maximum limit, thus preventing over-pressurization.

Function:

Serves as a pressure regulator, ensuring that the compressor maintains the desired air pressure within the tank by automatically starting and stopping the motor as necessary.

Components

  • A pressure switch usually consists of a diaphragm sensitive to pressure variations, linked to a spring mechanism that activates an electrical switch when the pressure reaches a designated level.
  • Most pressure switches come with adjustable settings for "cut-in" pressure (the point at which the compressor starts) and "cut-out" pressure (the point at which the compressor turns off).
